Idaho Psychiatrist Alexander Wills Sentenced to Jail in Domestic Violence Case; Still Facing Sexual Assault Charge

May 4, 2026

Alexander Wills, a former Boise-area psychiatrist, has been sentenced to two years of supervised probation after pleading guilty to misdemeanor domestic battery stemming from a 2024 incident involving his wife. He was also ordered to serve more than two months in jail and undergo domestic violence as well as drug and alcohol evaluations. A related misdemeanor charge was dropped as part of a plea deal. His clinics in Boise, Nampa, and Twin Falls have since closed.

The sentencing comes as Wills still faces serious felony charges tied to an alleged sexual assault of a former patient. Prosecutors say he could face up to life in prison if convicted at trial. The judge indicated his probation terms could be modified depending on the outcome of that case. Meanwhile, the Idaho Board of Medicine has suspended his medical license, citing the severity of the allegations and concerns about patient safety, along with claims of a broader pattern of unprofessional conduct.

In court, Wills’ wife criticized the prosecution, saying the case caused lasting harm to their family and should have been handled differently. Prosecutors countered by presenting a 911 call in which she expressed fear for her and her children’s lives, underscoring the seriousness of the incident. Wills acknowledged responsibility in court, stating he recognizes the need for ongoing change.
