Loma Linda VA Psychiatrist Edward R. Verde Admitted to Engaging in Sexual Relationship with Wife of Disabled Patient

September 11, 2025

On October 1, 2024, the Medical Board of California issued an Accusation against Loma Linda psychiatrist Edward R. Verde.

The Accusation charges Verde with gross negligence and general unprofessional conduct, relative to him having entered into a sexual relationship with the wife and caregiver of a long-term patient.

According to the Board’s document, in or around 2020, Verde provided treatment to an adult male patient he had been treating for about ten years. The document states that Verde was at that time employed by Loma Linda Veterans Affairs. The Board’s document describes the patient as being “significantly impaired,” “gravely disabled,” and “unable to care for himself emotionally and physically” and was accompanied by his wife, who served as his caregiver. The Board’s document further states that at this time (2020) Verde became “romantically involved” with the patient’s wife.

The Board’s document states that in August 2020, Verde self-reported his affair with the patient’s wife to Loma Linda Veterans Affairs and shortly thereafter retired from his position there and from the practice of medicine. During the medical board’s investigation in August 2024, Verde admitted to engaging in the affair with the patient’s wife.
