Michigan Psychiatrist Paul Sorgi Surrenders License; Propositioned Patients to Have Sex with Him and His Wife

On May 19, 2021, the Michigan Board of Medicine ordered that the license of your colleague, Petoskey psychiatrist Paul Sorgi, be permanently surrendered.

In a written statement, he informed the Department that he had fully retired as of November 1, 2020 and was no longer seeing patients. However, the Michigan Automated Prescription System indicated that he continued to write controlled substance prescriptions for medications used to treat psychiatric conditions after November 1, 2020.

Other factual allegations were brought against Dr. Sorgi: from 2018 to 2019, several patients alleged that he asked if they would like to have sex with him and/or his spouse. 

Dr. Sorgi’s conduct constituted a violation of general duty, consisting of negligence or failure to exercise due care, whether or not injury resulted.  And any conduct, practice or condition that impairs or may impair, the ability to engage in the practice of the health care profession safely and skillfully is a violation of state codes.  His conduct demonstrated a lack of good moral character.  Source: Consent Order in the Matter of Paul J.
