Medical Board Places San Diego Psychiatrist Yaroslav Kushnir on Probation for Sexually Inappropriate Comments, More

On February 1, 2021, the California Medical Board revoked the license of psychiatrist Yaroslav Kushnir. Revocation was stayed and he was placed on probation for five years.

The Board found Kushnir to have committed gross negligence, repeated negligent acts, failure to maintain adequate and accurate records, incompetence, and unprofessional conduct. 

These charges were based on the following: On or about July 7, 2017, while employed at Alvarado Park Institute (API) he was accused of engaging in sexually inappropriate comments and behavior, prescribing amphetamine to a patient who was floridly psychotic from methamphetamine use, writing illegible, chaotic, and incomplete chart notes for the patient, and failure to obtain informed consent for psychotropic medications from a patient who lacked capacity to give informed consent.

Additionally, on multiple occasions between October 2016 and May 2017 he intentionally poured his own urine down the elevator shaft at API.
