Psychiatrist accused of prescribing tens of thousands of pills to two patients has his license temporarily suspended

On May 10, 2017, New Jersey psychiatrist Joel Glass, accused of prescribing two patients tens of thousands of opioid painkillers over several years, had his medical license temporarily suspended and was ordered to surrender both his DEA registration and his New Jersey Controlled Dangerous Substances registration and immediately stop prescribing controlled dangerous substances.  

Regarding one of the two patients, Attorney General Christopher S. Porrino  said, “The patient could not have taken all the drugs allegedly prescribed to him by this doctor and survived.” 

In the case of the second patient, Glass allegedly prescribed “dramatically high quantities” of oxycodone to a middle-aged woman without documenting any physical or diagnostic tests.

His license will remain suspended until full proceedings are completed or a further Order is issued by the medical board.
