Texas psychiatrist Robert A. Woodward placed on 10-year disciplinary order for prohibited substance violations

The Texas Medical Board placed psychiatrist Robert Alan Woodward on a 10-year agreed order of public reprimand requiring that he not treat himself or his family; that he abstain from the consumption of prohibited substances; that he attend AA or a similar program at least three times a week; that within 90 days he get an independent evaluation from a psychiatrist; and that within one year he take and pass the Texas Medical Jurisprudence Examination.  The action was based on Woodward's failure to report the suspension of his Louisiana medical license to the board and on his writing prescriptions for his wife and diverting them for his own use.  Texas disciplined Woodward once before for similar behavior: In January 1993, the Board suspended his license for five years, stayed, and placed him on five years probation due to disciplinary action taken against him in Minnesota and Louisiana; intemperate use of alcohol/drugs; writing false or fictitious prescriptions for dangerous drugs and unprofessional conduct likely to deceive, defraud or injure the public.
