New York places psychiatrist Surjit Dinsa on five years probation for numerous instances of incompetence, negligence regarding seven patients

The New York Board for Professional Medical Conduct reprimanded psychiatrist Surjit Singh Dinsa and placed him on probation for five years for Gross Negligence, Negligence on More Than One Occasion, Incompetence on More Than One Occasion and recordkeeping failures.  According to the Board’s documents, Dinsa failed to meet the standard of care in his treatment of seven patients, on whom he failed to obtain/document a complete and/or timely history; failed to perform and/or document adequate and/or timely mental status examinations; failed to order and/or obtain appropriate laboratory studies; failed to consult with patients’ previous clinicians; failed to maintain accurate medical records and, inappropriately prescribed and other failures.  In addition to the reprimand and probation, Dinsa must also complete 100 hours of continuing medical education and other conditions.
