Psychiatrist Michael Moeller placed on probation for attempting inappropriate relationship with patient
December 19, 2011
The Iowa Board of Medicine released the conditions of a settlement agreement with Dr. Michael L. Moeller, a 52-year-old Iowa-licensed psychiatrist, who currently practices in Sioux Falls, S.D., northwest Iowa and southwest Minnesota.
The board and Moeller entered into the agreement on Nov. 18, 2011. Under the terms of the settlement, Moeller has been ordered to complete a board-approved professional boundaries evaluation and placed him on probation for a period of three years subject to counseling and board monitoring.
On Aug. 18, Moeller was charged, by the board, with making inappropriate statements to a patient being treated for anxiety, and attempting to initiate an inappropriate relationship with the mother of a child, to whom he had provided counseling, when he practiced psychiatry in Spencer in 2010.
The board also charged Moeller for failing to disclose that he was being investigated by another state licensing board on a renewal application he submitted to the board on Feb. 27.
