Michigan revokes license of psychologist Robert McIntyre following conviction for sex with teen patient

On May 4, 2011, the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs’ Bureau of Health Professions revoked the license of psychologist Robert Karl McIntyre due to lack of good moral character and other findings. 

McIntyre was convicted in December 2010 on three counts of sexual conduct and two misdemeanor charges of giving alcohol to two teenage girls. Investigators stated that McIntyre, 58, had sexual contact with a teenage girl he was counseling. Despite the fact that the girl was old enough to consent (age of consent in Michigan is 16), state law prohibits sexual contact between doctors and patients.

The patient testified that their counseling relationship began professionally but degenerated to “laid back” as McIntyre allowed her to call him “Rob,” gave her guitar lessons and purchased alcohol for her. She testified that they engaged in intercourse seven times.
