State files complaint against psychiatrist Addie H. Robinson-Grim over Ritalin prescriptions to husband

On January 25, 2011, the Medical Licensing Board of Indiana issued a Complaint against psychiatrist Addie Hilda Robinson-Grim. 

The complaint, which calls for appropriate disciplinary action and for Robinson-Grim to pay the costs of the Indiana Board’s prosecution, is based on actions taken against Robinson-Grim by the medical licensing authority of the state of Illinois. 

According to the Indiana Board’s document, Robinson came under investigation by the Chicago Field Division of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) in July 2006, which had become aware of frequent large quantity prescriptions for Ritalin and its generic equivalents being prescribed by Robinson-Grim to her husband. 

In an interview with DEA investigators on August 4, 2006, Grim admitted prescribing Ritalin to her husband for the past 10 years and further admitted she did not maintain patient records on him and that he would ask her to write him the prescriptions. 

Investigators advised her she had prescribed 970 doses of Ritalin or its generic equivalent in March 2006 and another 600 doses in April 2006.  Robinson-Grim indicated she was unaware she’d prescribed such large amounts. 

She agreed to surrender her DEA registration in August 2006. 

On or about December 3, 2009, the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (medical licensing board) reprimanded Robinson-Grim based on her prescribing practices to her husband.  She was also fined $500.
