Washington medical board charges psychiatrist Kevin Sloan with prescribing violation

The Washington Department of Health Medical Quality Assurance Commission issued a “Statement of Charges” on psychiatrist Kevin Sloan, alleging that he prescribed below the standard of care in prescribing narcotic pain medications for a patient. Specifically, he wrote eight prescriptions for injectable meperidine (Demerol) and nine prescriptions for methadone for patient though he was aware that other health care providers wrote prescriptions for the patient for injectable meperidine, which she routinely exhausted.
