WV Psychiatrist Russ Voltin reprimanded for personal relationship with patient
August 21, 2008
In mid-August 2008 the West Virginia Board of Medicine publicly reprimanded psychiatrist Russ Voltin for “unprofessional and unethical conduct” and placed him on three years probation for carrying on a personal relationship with a patient through telephone conversations, e-mail and text messages. Additionally, the Board ordered Voltin to attend a medical ethics course and vowed to revoke his license if he was found to have engaged in any personal relationships with patients during his three-year probation term. Voltin is an assistant professor at West Virginia University School of Medicine and co-medical director of the forensic evaluation unit at the South Central Regional Jail in South Charleston.1
