VA psychiatrist who had sex with veteran pleads guilty to witness tampering
August 24, 2017
Stephen Lester Greer, a staff psychiatrist at a Veterans Administration hospital in Oklahoma, pleaded guilty in federal court to witness tampering involving a patient he had a sexual relationship with.
According to the indictment, Greer began a sexual relationship with a woman while at the same time maintaining the doctor-patient relationship with her. In spring of 2016, the woman became pregnant with Greer's child, although she later miscarried.
According to Acting U.S. Attorney Douglas A. Horn, "When VA hospital administrators discovered the impropriety, Greer attempted to cover-up his actions by coaching the female veteran to lie to federal law enforcement officers.”
Specifically, the indictment alleges that Greer advised the woman to lie about several topics, including their sexual relationship, financial assistance he provided her, the paternity of the woman’s baby and the hotel rooms they shared.
He faces up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine when he is sentenced.
