University of Illinois Child Psychiatrist Mani Pavuluri Resigns Amid Scandal

July 13, 2018

Chicago IL - Pediatric Psychiatrist Mani Pavuluri, whom conducted a federally-funded five-year study with children and adolescents at the University of Illinois in Chicago (UIC), resigned from UIC effective June 30.

It was discovered that Pavuluri tested the powerful drug, Lithium, on children younger than thirteen although she has been explicitly instructed not to and did not alert the parents to risks associated with the drug.  She also falsified data to cover up her misconduct.

The National Institute of Mental Health has been repaid millions of dollars from the univresity of the grant funds after the agency discovered there had been “serious and continuing noncompliance” on the part of both Pavuluri and UIC’s institutional review board (IRB).
