UK psychologist Nicola Millward loses license for sex letters to prisoner

On December 19, 2007, the British Psychologist Society (BPS) struck UK prison psychologist Nicola Millward from its register (revoked her license). A BPS hearing learned that Millward wrote “pornographic” letters over a ten-month period to an inmate incarcerated for murder. Millward, who is married, later began a relationship with another member of the prison staff, leaving the inmate with “suicidal feelings.” Millward admitted to the BPS Disciplinary Committee that she brought the profession into disrepute and failed to ensure the patient’s welfare but, according to BPS documents, "…she did not acknowledge what she did was harmful….”1
