Two State Medical Boards Reprimand Psychiatrist Keshavpal Reddy; Patient Admitted to ICU
January 31, 2022
On May 25, 2021, the North Carolina Medical Board ordered that Greensboro psychiatrist Keshavpal Reddy be reprimanded.
The North Carolina Medical Board brought this order against Dr. Reddy based on a reprimand issued against him by the medical licensing authority of another state where he is licensed.
On November 12, 2020, the Virginia Board of Medicine entered an order reprimanding Dr. Reddy based on findings and admissions that he’d failed to properly document his examination of his patient’s complaint of tongue swelling, which the patient reported may have been caused by the medication Geodon. In addition, Dr. Reddy failed to document his discussion with the patient about the risks and benefits of discontinuing Geodon and his assessment that her swollen tongue was unrelated to this medication. The patient was ultimately transported to a Virginia hospital emergency department, where she was diagnosed with anaphylactic shock, metabolic and lactic acidosis, elevated troponin, and renal failure. The patient was admitted to the intensive care unit.
