June 2, 2026
A psychiatrist affiliated with Tulane University School of Medicine has been arrested following a neighborhood dispute in New Orleans that escalated into gunfire. Police say Dr. Bruce Lovelace, an assistant professor of psychiatry, was taken into custody and charged with aggravated second-degree battery after allegedly shooting another man during the confrontation.
According to investigators, the incident stemmed from a disagreement between neighbors that turned violent. The victim survived the shooting and was transported to a hospital for treatment. Authorities have not publicly released additional details about what led to the altercation.
The arrest has drawn attention because of Lovelace’s position as a physician and medical school faculty member. The case remains under investigation, and prosecutors will determine how the criminal charges proceed through the court system.
