Tokyo: Psychiatrist Koichi Takeda Arrested for Indecency with Young Female Patient

A 61-year-old psychiatrist has been arrested on suspicion of forcible indecency against a female patient at his clinic here after he allegedly hugged and kissed her, the Metropolitan Police Department's Akasaka Police Station announced on Dec. 6.

According to the police, Koichi Takeda, 61, the head of Minamiaoyama Mental Clinic, allegedly hugged a patient in her 20s, kissed her and carried out other obscene acts in the clinic's consulting room in Tokyo's Minato Ward at around 12:30 p.m. on Sept. 8.

The police said that the patient started to visit the clinic half a year ago. She was quoted as telling police that Takeda also forced kisses on her during a Sept. 7 medical consultation.

Takeda has apparently admitted to the allegations.

The police have received at least three other reports since August last year from patients saying, "I was hugged by the doctor" or "the doctor forced a kiss on me." The police believe there are possibilities that other indecent assault cases occurred at the clinic.
