Texas reprimands psychiatrist Robert Wilkerson for standard of care failures

On August 27, 2010, the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners publicly reprimanded psychiatrist Robert G. Wilkerson, Jr. 
 
The Board found that Wilkerson failed to maintain adequate medical records; failed to follow Board guidelines for the treatment of pain; failed to follow generally accepted standards of care; prescribed dangerous drugs or controlled substances without first establishing a proper professional relationship with patients and failed to supervise adequately those under his supervision. 
 
In addition to the reprimand, the Board required him to have another physician monitor his practice for three years; required him to complete within one year 20 hours of continuing education including 10 hours in risk management and 10 hours in ethics. 
 
He must also pay $7,500 in fines and may not supervise a physician assistant, advanced practice nurse or surgical assistant for three years.
