South Carolina disciplines psychiatrist Angel Perez

On March 15, 2007 the South Carolina State Board of Medical Examiners disciplined psychiatrist Angel Perez for misconduct. Dr. Perez was found to have unlawfully obtained Demerol, a Schedule II controlled substance, by fraud. He wrote prescriptions for the drug in the name of his secretary, had them filled and then forwarded them to his supervisor. Dr. Perez admitted that there was neither a legitimate doctor-patient relationship nor a legitimate medical purpose for prescribing the drug. Dr. Perez was issued a public reprimand and fined $2,000.1
