Social worker Carl Goodwin-Moore suspended for sexual "Skype" call

December 23, 2011

On October 14, 2011, the Main Department of Professional and Financial Regulation issued a Notice of Immediate Suspension on social worker Carl Goodwin-Moore, suspending his license for 30 days, pending further action by the state Board of Social Worker Licensure, for reasons of sexual misconduct and a dual relationship with a former client, among other things.

Goodwin-Moore was employed by Mid-Coast Mental Health Center. In March 2011, he was assigned to the all-night, state-wide mental health crisis line. During one shift, he engaged in a personal, non-job related “Skype” conversation with a 17-year-old male who was a former client (with whom Goodwin-Moore had previously worked with during his internship to attain his Masters in Social Work degree). Among the issues he worked on with the former client was the client’s sexual orientation.

Goodwin-Moore had continued to carry on a personal relationship with the former client following the termination of the counseling relationship.

Goodwin-Moore acknowledged that during the Skype call, he engaged in sexual conversation, exposed himself to the former client via webcam and masturbated for him to observe over the webcam.

He resigned his position rather than be terminated.
