Second Sexual Abuse Trial against Psychiatrist Surendra Johri Begins, Adjourns until February
December 11, 2018
The second sexual abuse trial of New Hartford psychiatrist Surendra Johri began Monday morning and abruptly was adjourned until February.
Prosecution attorney's filed a motion to change the date of when the alleged sexual abuse occurred. The defense attorney filed a motion to dismiss the charges against one of the patients.
Johri was acquitted back in June of the sexual abuse charges against him at that time.
He is now accused of touching a female patient sexually in 2017 when he was working as a psychiatrist at Community Health Behavioral Services in Utica.
In a separate case, Johri faces the same sexual abuse and forcible touching charges following accusations from another alleged victim.
The judge granted the prosecution's request to consolidate all of the charges against him, meaning he will have one trial with two alleged victims.
