Saskatoon Psychiatric Resident Anjena Gandham Suspended for Lying About Prescription

A doctor training to be a psychiatrist is suspended from medical practice for one month for repeatedly lying about a prescription for a colleague she signed in contravention of the rules.

Dr. Anjena Gandham was partway through a psychiatric residency program at the University of Saskatchewan when she was disciplined by her licensing body, the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Saskatchewan.

Along with the suspension, Gandham was reprimanded and ordered to take an ethics course on professionalism. She was also ordered to pay more than $1,400 for the investigation and hearing.

Although the penalties were decided in September, Gandham’s suspension did not take effect until January in order to lessen the impact on her colleagues, according to a written decision from the College’s discipline committee.
