Queensland Psychiatrist Anand Madhukarro Choudhary Found Guilty of Fraud

A psychiatrist who was having problems in the bedroom was caught forging his colleague's signature to prescribe himself erectile dysfunction tablets.

Dr. Anand Madhukarro Choudhary, 45, pleaded guilty to fraud, attempted fraud and stealing in the Maroochydore (Queensland, Australia) Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

Choudhary had been working at a health clinic in Caloundra, on the Sunshine Coast when his pride drove him to steal two scripts from another doctor.

He filled out the scripts and forged his colleague's signature before attempting to buy two boxes of the medication – totalling $1390.

When he was confronted about the stolen scripts he denied taking them and then later falsified an email to the health ombudsman, the Sunshine Coast Daily reported.

His counsel Ruth O'Gorman, told the court her client had been 'too embarrassed' to visit a GP about his lack of libido.

She said her client was a highly regarded medical professional with a 10-page CV.

He has been suspended from his positions with Metro North Hospital and Health Service since he was first charged.

She said Choudhary was 'extremely remorseful' and was now legally medicated.

Magistrate Graham Hillan slammed Choudhary for his actions. “What you have done is illegal, you were driven by embarrassment,” Mr Hillan said. This could have been done by legal channels, you have bypassed that by creating fraudulent scripts and a misleading email to boot.”

He was fined $1,200 but no conviction was recorded.
