Psychologist Russell Cherry Indicted on Child Pornography Charges
June 21, 2018
The U.S. Attorney's Office announced an indictment Wednesday against an Anchorage clinical psychologist Russell Cherry and partner in a local neurological practice on charges of distribution and possession of child pornography. Russell Cherry, 51, is charged with one count of distribution of child pornography and one count of possession of child pornography.
The indictment alleges that on or around July 29 and July 31, 2017, Cherry knowingly distributed "visual depictions of minors engaging in sexually explicit conduct." On or around August 29, 2017, Cherry allegedly knowingly possessed images and videos depicting child exploitation found on his desktop PC.
Alaska Neuro Associates LLC released a statement Thursday saying the company is unaware of any wrongdoing related to Cherry's work at the company stating "At this time, the company has no reason to believe Dr. Cherry engaged in any inappropriate behavior with clients or staff. From the limited knowledge of the circumstances of the charges, it appears the allegations involve personal activities outside of work."
The FBI asks that anyone with any further information or concerns about Cherry's behavior contact them at (907) 276-4441.
Cherry faces between five and 20 years in prison if convicted.
