September 29, 2011

On September 4, 2011, psychologist Beatriz Isabel Ascani surrendered her license to the California Board of Psychology for conviction of a crime and dishonest acts.

According to the Board’s document, in January 2003, the state Department of Health Services conducted an onsite review of three of Ascani’s practice locations which found that she misrepresented herself by claiming for services which she did not personally perform, services which were not documented and/or were performed by unlicensed individuals not under her direct supervision.

The audit resulted in a the State of California issuing Ascani a Demand Letter to reimburse the state for claim overpayments amounting to $1,912,890. In March 2006, she was charged in Los Angeles Superior Court with two fraud-related felony counts. She was convicted of those counts on April 18, 2006 and sentenced June 6 to 270 days in jail, among other terms.
