Psychiatrist who hired hitmen to kill wife tries to get parole

March 29, 2018

In 1996, Psychiatrist Omar Sabadia hired hitmen to kill his wife, a university medical sudent at the time.  He was sentenced in 1998 to 50 years in prison, with the judge recommending he serve at least 35 years of his sentence before parole could be considered.  Now, after serving just 20 years, he is trying to be considered for parole.

He has appeared before a board for a parole hearing on at least two other occassions. Last week, he turned to the high court in Pretoria for an urgent order that the parole board consider his release.
