Psychiatrist Theresa Marie McKay prohibited from practicing

November 21, 2013

On August 26, 2013, the Virginia Board of Medicine prohibited psychiatrist Theresa Marie McKay from practice until she complied with carious terms and conditions.

According to the Board’s findings of fact, on or about January 17, 2013, the U.S. Army Medical Command at General Leonard Wood Army Community Hospital at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri (GLWACH) restricted McKay’s clinical privileges, due to mental illness which significantly affected her level of patient care.

Prior, in August 2010, GLWACH summarily suspended her clinical privileges due to poor chart documentation and declining mental health, resulting in two hospitalizations that year.

In February 2013, she was approved to return to practice on a graduated return-to-practice plan which. In April 2013, she informed the Board that she was assigned and working as a staff psychiatrist at Brook Army Medical Center in San Antonio, TX and that she was stable.

She is prohibited from practicing medicine in Virginia until she complies with terms that include, among other things, entering into a Recovery Monitoring Contract with the Virginia Health Practitioners’ Monitoring Program.
