Psychiatrist Jose S. Cruz-Martinez suspended over care of patient who died
October 11, 2013
On July 11, 2013, the Colorado Medical Board suspended psychiatrist Jose S. Cruz-Martinez pending completion of an assessment, and any recommended educational plan to address deficiencies.
Further, he was placed on probation for a minimum period of one year, not to exceed 18 months, to complete any educational recommendations, and practice monitoring during the educational plan.
This action was in response to Dr. Cruz-Martinez’s violation of the generally accepted standard of medical practice in his treatment of an autistic patient in a state hospital whom the documents state died of dehydration, hypernatremia or neuroleptic malignant syndrome.
