Psychiatrist Ira Morganstern surrenders medical license following pot conviction

On October 6, 2010, psychiatrist Ira Morganstern surrendered his license to practice medicine in the state of New York.

The Statement of Charges issued by the New York State Board for Professional Medical Conduct states that on or about January 23, 2009, in the Superior Court of New Jersey, Hunterdon County, Morganstern was convicted of possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute (marijuana). 

He was sentenced to two years probation, $2,230 in court costs and fees, four days jail time credit and is barred from public office.

On or about September 11, 2009, the New Jersey State Board of Medical Examiners reprimanded Morganstern and ordered him to continue to participate in the Professional Assistance Program (for the rehabilitation of impaired physicians) and pay costs of $1,540.
