Psychiatrist Henri Montandon reprimanded over prescribing practices
October 8, 2010
On August 11, 2010, the Medical Board of California reprimanded psychiatrist Henri Eugene Montandon and required that he enroll in Board-approved courses on prescribing practices and medical record keeping.
Montadon prescribed large doses of Demerol and failed to maintain adequate medical records justifying such prescribing. He initially saw the patient in the 2000 for psychiatric treatment but in 2005 began treating the patiet for pain.
The patien made multiple trips to the ER for management of dehydration and pain from severe migraine symptoms that included pain, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.
From 2005 to 2007, other physicians refused to prescribe Demerol to the patient and even indicated concerns over the patient's apparent drug addiction.
In March 2007, the patient began suffering seizures that required visits to the ER. An ER doctor filed a complaint with the Board who later determined that Montandon was incompetent in prescribing to an addict, had failed to exercise reasonable care and failed to maintain adequate records.
