Psychiatrist Andrew Clayton sentenced on child pornography conviction
May 8, 2009
Psychiatrist ANDREW CLAYTON of Derbyshire, England, pleaded guilty to four counts of making indecent images of children and two charges of possession of indecent pictures. In September 2007, the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre detected that Clayton had attempted to access a website offering child pornography and tipped off police. The police seized his computer and recovered 87 pornographic pictures from the hard drive. Some of the recovered images contained content graphic enough to be classified by police as “category five”—the most severe. The court sentenced Clayton to a three-year community order and must register as a sex offender for five years. He is also banned for five years from treating patients under 16 and is currently under review by the UK General Medical Council for fitness to practice, after suspending him in December 2008.
