Psych nurse assistant charged with sexual assault of two patients
May 17, 2012
A psychiatric nursing assistant from Shrewsbury today denied sexually assaulting two female patients while working in a hospital.
Foday Chorr, 45, of Shorncliffe Drive, in Copthorne, is accused of committing the offences at the Eastbourne District General Hospital in East Sussex between June 10 and 21 last year.
He was working there as a psychiatric nursing assistant.
During a 10-minute hearing at Eastbourne Magistrates Court today, Chorr, who appeared in full African dress, denied five counts of sexual assault.
Chairman of the bench Mike Pratt said Chorr would return to the court to face trial on May 4.
Chorr was released on unconditional bail until then.
The charges relate to the time Chorr was working on the Bodiam Ward, which is one of three adult mental health wards at the hospital.
The ward is part of the hospital’s Department of Psychiatry, which provides adult inpatient mental health services for the Eastbourne and Wealden area of Sussex.
He was suspended by the Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, which is responsible for running the hospital, following the allegations.
There is no record of Chorr working for the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust.
