New York psychiatrist Virginia Wohltmann sentenced for failure to pay income tax
June 29, 2010
An East Rochester psychiatrist pled guilty to a misdemeanor count of failing to pay her New York state personal income taxes, according to the Department of Taxation and Finance.
Dr. Virginia A. Wohltmann, 51, of 1108 Roosevelt Road in East Rochester, pleaded guilty on June 23 before Acting Monroe County Court Judge Stephen T. Miller.
In December 2009, she was charged with felony counts for failing to file state personal income tax returns for tax years 2004-2008. In those years, she had treated patients at medical offices at 490 Cross Keys Office Park, Fairport, and at Nicholas H. Noyes Memorial Hospital Mental Health Service Department in Dansville.
Judge Miller sentenced Wohltmann to 96 hours of community service as part of a conditional discharge. Prior to the plea, she had filed the delinquent returns and paid more than $100,000 in back taxes, penalty and interest.
The delinquencies were uncovered as part of a statewide enforcement initiative targeting individuals who fail to file state income tax returns.
The state has a Voluntary Disclosure and Compliance Program to encourage delinquent taxpayers to file returns without facing criminal prosecution or civil penalties.
