New York medical board issues charges against psychiatrist Abbey Strauss; reprimanded in Florida

On May 24, 2012, the New York Board for Professional Medical Conduct issued a Statement of Charges against psychiatrist Abbey Strauss.

The Board's factual allegations states that in April 2011, the Florida Board of Medicine reprimanded Strauss and ordered him to pay a $10,000 fine and $7,319 in costs, as well as 100 hours community service and one year probation for failure to complete a physical exam on every patient's visit, failure to complete and update a treatment place, failure to keep medical records and/or appropriate medical records.

Additionally, in June 2006, the Florida Board of Medicine issued Strauss a Letter of Concern, requiring him to pay a $15,000 fine and $6,774 in costs, as well as additional continuing education based on his failure to practice medicine withing acceptable medical standards, failure to keep appropriate medical records and prescribing controlled substances inappropriately or in excessive or inappropriate quantities.

These Florida sanctions would constitute misconduct in the state of New York. The state will seek to take disciplinary action against Strauss' license.
