New York State Precludes Psychiatrist Richard Langone from Practicing

January 31, 2022

On March 5, 2021, the New York Board for Professional Medical Conduct ordered that New York psychiatrist Richard Langone be precluded from the practice of medicine in the State of New York and from practicing in any setting where his practice is based solely on his New York State medical license.

The negligence charges brought against him stated that from January 2016 through October 2019 he evaluated and treated five patients and deviated from minimally acceptable standards of care in that he failed to appropriately perform and/or document examinations and failed to appropriately order and/or document medical reasons for ordering medications for efficacious treatment.

He was charged with professional misconduct by failing to maintain a record for each patient which accurately reflects the care and treatment of the patient.

Dr. Langone affirmed he could not successfully defend against at least one act of professional misconduct by practicing the profession of medicine with negligence on more than one occasion and failing to maintain accurate medical records.

His license is now on “inactive” status, and he shall not reactivate or reregister the license at any time.

Previously, on October 29, 2020, he was placed on probation for a period of thirty-six months.  The probation included a practice monitor and a review of prescribing practices.
