New Mexico Psychiatrist Mark Beale Indicated on Criminal Sex Charges Involving Nine Patients

August 16, 2019

A Las Cruces psychiatrist and pain management specialist has been indicted on 23 counts of criminal sexual contact, all fourth-degree felonies.

Dr. Mark Beale, 72, is alleged to have had inappropriate contact with nine of his patients.

Beale (graduated from Meharry Medical College, 1977) was arrested April 12 and was released on a $5,000 secured bond.

A news release in April announcing Beale's arrest stated his victims ranged in age from 21 to 60, and the incidents began in January 2015. However, that release stated he allegedly had inappropriate contact with six patients.

Three more patients have come forward since the news of his arrest.

Police in April alleged Beale forced some of the women to have sex with him, or engage in sexual contact, at his office, at 133 Wyatt Drive, or in one case, at a woman's home.

Beale also may have prescribed medications to some of the women without properly diagnosing their symptoms, police said.

In April, Beale was facing three third-degree felony counts of criminal sexual penetration, but he was not indicted on those charges.
