New Jersey psychiatrist's license revoked for illegally prescribing Adderall
December 11, 2017
New Jersey psychiatrist Dr. James Cowan Jr. had his license revoked by the state Medical Examiners Office after he pleaded guilty on November 30 to illegally prescribing Adderall.
“Instead of doing his part to help fight the scourge of addiction, Dr. Cowan exacerbated the problem by dispensing habit-forming drugs to patients without justification,” said state Attorney General Christopher S. Porrino in a statement. “There is absolutely no place in the medical profession for doctors who abuse their prescription writing privileges to traffic in the illegal sale of highly restricted drugs.”
Cowan previously had his licensed suspended in 2016 when he was accused of allowing his wife, a clincial social worker, to treat patients.
