Minnesota Health Facility Regulator Suspends Operation of Child Psych Facility
May 26, 2026
Minnesota regulators have ordered the immediate suspension of a youth psychiatric residential treatment program operated by Nexus Family Healing in East Bethel after investigators concluded that children at the facility faced an “imminent risk of harm.” The 40-bed psychiatric program served youth ages 10 to 21 with severe behavioral and mental health needs.
According to findings from the Minnesota Department of Human Services, investigators identified numerous alleged safety failures, including unreported suspected maltreatment, unsafe medication administration, inadequate staffing and supervision, ineffective responses to dangerous behavior, and concerns about the physical condition of the facility itself. Officials said the suspension was necessary to protect the “health, safety, and rights” of children in care.
The East Bethel program had already drawn scrutiny from local officials because of frequent emergency calls tied to incidents involving self-harm, assaults, and youth leaving the campus. Reports indicate the facility generated nearly 200 calls to 911 in a single year. Nexus Family Healing disputes the state’s action and says it has been working on corrective measures, but the shutdown could still affect roughly 100 employees while residents are relocated to other programs
