Michigan Psychologist Garrett Turke Surrenders License for "Intimate Relationship" with Patient
October 29, 2018
On the "About" page of his website, where he promotes himself as an author, Dr. Garrett L. Turke describes himself as "a retired Ph.D. clinical psychologist."
It's true; he is an author, with two books to his credit. But if you look Turke up on the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs website, it does not say "retired." Rather, it shows that his license status is "surrendered."
On September 27, 2018, the Michigan Board of Psychology issued a consent order which provides the actual story:
"On November 20, 2017, the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs received evidence and information that [Turke's] employement at Cognitive Consultants, LLC in Lansing, Michigan was terminated due to [Turke's] admitted involvement in an intimate relationship with a former client while provided therapy to the former client, in violation of...the Public Health Code...."
The document includes Turke's "retirement" as a "factor taken into consideration in the formulation" of the consent order.
