Mental health counselor Gerrish Smith suspended for Medicaid fraud conviction

The South Carolina Board of Examiners for Licensure of Professional Counselors issued a Final Order reprimanding professional counselor Gerrish Smith indefinitely suspending his license. According to the Board’s “Findings of Fact,” Mr. Smith pleaded guilty in August 2007 to ten counts of Filing False Claims, specifically “willfully and knowingly causing false claims for reimbursement to be filed with South Carolina Medicaid Program between July 13, 2001 and September 10, 2004.” His license shall remain suspended until he complies with the terms of his criminal probation sentence.
