Maryland revokes counselor Stanley J. Benn's license
December 23, 2008
On December 23, 2008, the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene revoked mental health counselor Stanley J. Benn’s license for five years. At a hearing before the State Board of Counseling on December 19, 2008, Mr. Benn admitted that he (1) failed to comply with the requirements set forth in an earlier Board Order and (2) that he had misrepresented his licensure status on employment application documents after the Board’s suspension of his professional counselor license in 2006. Benn was convicted of Medicaid fraud in March 2005 and was sentenced to three years in prison and ordered to make restitution in the amount of $249,406 to the Medicaid program.
