Maryland Psychiatrist Sanjeev Singhal Suspended for Sex with Wife of Patient
November 11, 2021
On June 22, 2021, the Maryland Board of Physicians ordered that Frederick, Maryland psychiatrist Sanjeev Singhal, be reprimanded and that his license be suspended for a minimum period of six months.
This action was based on the Board’s finding that Singhal had engaged in immoral and unprofessional conduct in the practice of medicine by engaging in boundary violations which the Board characterized as severe and troubling.
Specifically, Singhal engaged in a sexual relationship with a patient’s wife. Though it occurred after he had stopped seeing the patient professionally, it violated professional boundaries and caused significant harm to the patient, whom he had diagnosed with anxiety and major depressive disorder. The patient became suicidal.
Singhal’s license will be placed on probation for two years following the suspension. Source: Final Decision and Order in the Matter of Sanjeev Singhal, M.D., License No. D61258, Maryland State Board of Physicians, Case No. 2218-0201, May 22, 2021
