Maine psychologist John Burns suspended

On May 7, 2013, the Maine Board of Examiners of Psychologists suspended John Burns until such time as he complies with conditions as ordered by the Board. The Board’s document states that Burns entered into a multiple relationship with a patient (to whom he had provided treatment for 39 years) by transporting the patient to medical appointments and the grocery story, among other places; accepting power of attorney for the patient; accepted an authorization from the patient to access her personal checking account; writing checks from the patient’s; creating and updating computerized spreadsheets of the patient’s personal checking account and involving himself in the patient’s household management, staffing, financial decisions and actions.
