Louisiana Medical Board Places Psychiatrist Parker B. Jones on Probation for Substance Abuse

On March 18, 2019, the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners placed the license of psychiatrist Parker B. Jones on probation for three years, with terms, conditions, and restrictions.

This action was based on Jones’ history of chemical dependency.

The Board’s document states that Jones came to the Board’s attention when it received information indicated that he had relapsed into chemical dependency.

Jones acknowledged to the Board that the information that the Board had received about him was accurate and that both the information and his acknowledgement could provide the Board with probably cause to pursue and administrative hearing against him for violation of the Louisiana Medical Practice Act.

Terms of his probation include the maintain of complete and total abstinence form the use of alcohol, controlled and any other mood-altering substance for as long as he holds a license to practice medicine in the state of Louisiana, except as prescribed by a physician for a bona fide medical condition.

He must also submit to periodic, unannounced blood, urine, saliva and/or hair collection for testing for the presence of alcohol and/or controlled and mood-altering substances.

Violation of or failure to comply with these and other terms and conditions as required by the Board will constitute sufficient cause for the revocation and cancellation of Dr. Jones’ Louisiana medical license.
