License probation continued for Indiana psychiatrist Brion Bertsch due to relapse

On December 11, 2009, the State of Indiana, Medical Licensing Board of Indiana (“Board”) affirmed that the psychiatrist Brion A. Bertsch, who was earlier placed on indefinite probation, shall continue on indefinite probation. 

On or about September 6, 2007, the Board issued and Order placing Bertsch’s license on indefinite probation, during which he was to enroll in and comply with the requirements of the states Physician Assistance Program (a rehabilitation program for impaired physicians).  In November of that year however, the Program reported to the Board that Bertsch had relapsed.  He was terminated from the program.  The Board held a hearing on December 3, 2009, and Bertsch admitted to his noncompliance with the Board’s Order. 

Conditions of his probation include that he may not take any other employment outside correctional medicine inside a prison environment only, unless he appears before the Board in advance.
