Illinois psychiatrist Imad Al-Basha faces up to 3 years prison on federal tax fraud conviction
April 8, 2009
The United States Attorney (USA) for the Northern District of Illinois announced that psychiatrist Imad M. Al-Basha pleaded guilty to one count of filing a materially false tax return. The USA’s press release stated that Al-Basha caused tax returns to be prepared on behalf of his wife’s dermatology practice (for which he is the vice president), that substantially under-reported the business’ ordinary income for the years 2000 through 2003. It additionally stated that he caused materially false form 1040 income tax returns to be filed for his wife and himself, which also substantially under-reported income for the years 2000 through 2003—resulting in a tax loss of more than $181,000 for the four years. He faces up to three years in prison and a $250,000 fine when he is sentenced on June 9th.
