Grand Jury Indicts Missouri Psychologist Kurt Bumby on Sodomy Charges

A Boone County (Missouri) grand jury indicted a Columbia psychologist for sex crimes Friday.

The indictment claims Kurt Bumby committed two counts of second-degree sodomy in 2010 and 2011. His next scheduled court appearance in September 28 in Boone County.

A possible victim told authorities in 2019 that he and Bumby had a sexual relationship when he was in middle school. The Boone County Prosecutor's Office charged Bumby in December of that year.

Bumby's research dealt with rehabilitating sexual offenders. The Association for the Treatment of Sexual Abusers suspended Bumby's membership after prosecutors charged him. He was a former employee of the Department of Social Services between 1997 and 2003. He also had an unpaid courtesy appointment with the University of Missouri through 2012.

Bumby is currently out of jail after posting bond in two cases. The St. Louis County prosecutor charged Bumby with two counts of sodomy for incidents that allegedly happened between 1988 and 1994. He is not allowed to have non-family members in his home or access social media as part of his release.
