Georgia mental health counselor Derrell Jackson indicted in theft
July 11, 2013
On April 17, 2013, Georgia professional counselor Derrell Jackson was indicted by a grand jury for violation of state RICO Act, Medicaid and theft by taking.
A press release from the Georgia Department of Law states that Jackson and his wife obtained more than $600,000 of Medicaid funds by submitting false billings to the Georgia Medicaid program over a three-year period.
Investigation revealed that the Jacksons billed for in-home mental health counseling using false progress notes in patients’ files as well as forging progress notes in the name of a non-existent employee. The services had simply never been provided.
The fraud scheme was uncovered when the Jacksons failed to appear for scheduled audits.
