Former Puerto Rico Psychiatrist Sentenced for Fraud
July 5, 2017
Psychiatrist Luis Escabi-Pérez, who pleaded guilty in 2015 to committing fraud, was sentenced on July 3, 2017 to five years probation and 500 hours of community service and ordered to pay $230,244 in restitution.
He committed fraud in the application process for Social Security Administration (SSA) disability insurance benefits, at times charging up to $5,000 to backdate medical records in order to create the appearance of a longer history of medical treatment for his patients.
His DEA and medical license were revoked without contest.
